SURRENDER is accepting reality - that you are life - biology and physics, and remaining open to the experiences conscious existence brings.

Stats as of 23Feb12 - Skipping the 167's and on to the 166s.
Debt Stats taken from the National Student Loan Database:
Employment Status:
T - On a 6 week break from rotations. Working 16-20hrs a week @ 19.50
B - 40/week @ 18.35
Action taken this month - We've made some significant progress the last few months on loans, but I believe that is all going to come to an end for awhile. T returns to rotations next week and will only be working 6 hrs/week through 6April. We are also moving in April to the north suburbs due to T's job offer - so that will take a bit of our extra income. Not to mention that NYC trip. Ta hee hee. It scares the crap out of me to think of how much interest will accrue between now and May when we most likely return to payments. :-S Oh, and did I mention the need for a second car come June...urrrgggle gurgle
Payments: Totaling $1377. Total payments for the year: $3467.

Action taken this month - T secured a pharmacist position upon graduation and licensure!!! Yay!!! This is good news, a load off of our soldiers and a HUGE increase in pay. The money probably won't start rolling in until August - July at the earliest, so until then we are still chugging along on T's part time gig - and B's full time one. .
Payments: Totaling $525. This is the first month since we started this blog where we are not taking money from Savings or refunding a recently dispersed loan. Total January loan payments: $1025.

Action taken this month - T is just starting his 6 week break from rotations today and is going to work much more. At least we hope so. This coming week is also the week we find out if T has a pharmacist job come graduation. If not, T will lose his intern position and we are f**ked. I supposed you're wondering why T isn't working more than 16hrs avg? Wellll, T has a Dr's appt Tuesday, but it looks like T has shingles and maybe an ulcer. So yeah. that's what 14mos of straight pharmacy school with no breaks will do to you. T needs a break.
Payments: Totaling $625. $500 from Savings to put toward loans. Savings total is now $4750. $125 automatic payment to B's loans. As you can see, we didn't make our yearly goal, but ah well. The goal for 2012 is 40,000 paid. Wouldn't this be a sad little blog if we never met a yearly goal?

Nigel Marsh Quote - and Mindful Spending
Think about this the next time you buy a Coach bag.
“There are thousands and thousands of people out there living lives of quiet, screaming desperation who work long, hard hours at jobs they hate, to enable them to buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t like.”
Notes to self: How to be a Mindful Spender
Before every purchase...
1) Read Marsh's quote above.
And ask yourself...
2) Will I use it?
3) Where will I put it?
4) Will it make me fat? (Girrrlllsss, am I right?)
5) Can I get it cheaper or free elsewhere?
6) Why am I buying this?
7) Is there something else I'd rather be spending my money on?
Another related quote and this one's from Fight Club:
Tyler Durden: Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.
And to think the quote above was made BEFORE the wildly hugeful success of reality TV. What would Tyler Durden say today?

Action taken this month - T is on rotations and is not able to work as much. Took $500 from Savings to put toward loans. Savings total is now $5500. Christmas presents are taken care of, however we are heading to Iowa soon – and are worried that this maytake a bigger chunk from Savings. Ie we gotta kennel the dog, pay for gas, hotel etc. Bonus this is a 3rd paycheck month! We really want to make our goal this year, but we shall see...
